8/5-8/6
We had two days to travel from
North Platte to Colorado Springs where we had reservations.
Our first night after we crossed
over the state line into Colorado was at Brush Memorial RV Park and
Campground. Located on the south end of
town, the city-run campground and RV Park has 60 gravel sites, 12 electrical
with water and clean showers available in the restroom.
The campground does not take reservations and
is on a first come first served basis.
Amazingly, the first night is free of charge. Each additional day is only $20.
The next night we stayed in the
parking lot at Bass Pro in Colorado Springs located approximately 15 miles from
the RV Park where we had reservations beginning the following day.
I
suggested that we take a ride to the campground to check it out. On the drive we were caught up in hailstorm
with golf ball size hail.
We
learned later on that the storm was responsible for the deaths of two animals
at the Colorado Springs Zoo and millions of dollars in damage.
Days
later on a visit to the local Camping World we learned that every new model in
their inventory had damage. We really
lucked out that we did not have any damage to our truck or RV.
