Travel day from Ocean Springs, MS
To Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola, FL
It was a short 115 mile travel day so we took our time getting packed up and ready for moving day.
Monte doing the dreaded "DUMPING"  And after over a week there was a lot to dump.
The one and a half mile leading to the highway from the campground
Cloudy skies
Welcome to Alabama
Alabama rest area
Traveled through Mobile

Monte and I got separated going through Mobile

We had to wait until the Florida Welcome Center to meet up.

We enjoyed our complementary cup of Florida OJ

We arrived at Big Lagoon State Park around 4PM.  The park uses Reserve America.  I had called while on the road to see if they had any unreserved sites open.  We were assigned site 33.  Monte got in my car so we could check the site out.  We thought it looked too shallow for us and we didn't like that it was sandy so we called Chris at the Ranger Station to inquire if site 8 was available.  It wasn't but site 9 was open with no reservations.  It had a concrete slab and was wide enough for my car.  My only concern was not being able to have satellite because of the trees.
We paid for one night but after setting up and getting good satellite reception, I drove back to the Ranger Station and paid for an additional 6 nights.

Davis Bayou CG
Ocean Springs, MS

A SOLITARY WALK
Monte took advantage of the camp grounds policy of being able to wash rigs (water only-no soap) and gave our home a much needed bath.

After spending time driving through the desert we had layers of dust, sand and dirt coating not only the rig but Monte’s truck as well.  (We took my car through the car wash last week)

I decided to take a walk.

I only intended to walk the short distance down to the swamp to see if the gator was sunning his self.

He wasn't anywhere to be seen.

I ended up taking one of the trails and getting kind of turned around.

I kept hearing rustling in the scrub and let my imagination get the better of me.

I really expected a gator to cross my path.
Finally, I retraced my steps and found my way back to the road.

Instead of returning to the campground

I continued on

and ended up at the Visitor Center.
This poor little guy thought he could out run a car.
This is the boardwalk around the rear of the Visitor Center

The rustling I heard turned out to be a squirrel digging in the dirt.
I hadn’t worn a hat so I could feel the heat from the sun beating on my head.
This little guy was curious about me but I guess I got too close for his comfort
so he quickly darted off.
That little blob is one of many turtles in this pond.
The Ranger Station
I was glad when I turned the bend in the road and saw Monte applying a coat of wax to the front of the rig.

Hi Honey=looking good.
We really have enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou and would definitely stay again if we come back this way.
