Lake Morena RV

 Campo, CA

It did not snow!  At least not where we are but it did snow where we had been recently in Julian.  Cabin fever and the need to restock up on some grocery staples had us making the 20 mile trip to Albertson’s in Alpine.   My entire life I have taken being within a short distance of stores, shops and restaurants, and especially supermarkets for granted so it is an adjustment when we stay somewhere and the closest grocery store is over 20 miles away.

When we got off the highway, I entered “all stores” in the GPS and was pleasantly surprised to discover there was a Dollar Tree less than a mile away from the supermarket.  We headed there first and I was able to pick up some things that had been on my grocery list.  Monte needed something from a hardware store so we stopped in at first True Value and then Ace but neither store had what he was looking for.

It was already 1:30 by the time we were finished browsing and we were getting hungry.  I was in the mood for pizza and remembering there was a pizza place next to the Dollar Tree, we made our way back there.  But the sign on the door indicated they don’t open until 4pm.  Our next stop was at a nearby Pizza Hut but it was take-out only and not wanting to sit in the car to eat because it was raining and cold, we entered “food” in the GPS and saw there was another pizza place a couple of miles away on the other side of town.  The pizza place was part of a food court in a shopping outlet mall and it was very good.

Not being familiar with Albertsons, I was impressed by the variety and quality of food they had to offer but found they were a little on the expensive side.  Four grocery bags and $60 later we were on our way back home.  I had brought along a cooler and some ice packs for the perishables.

In the future, when doing research for our next destination, I will have to add looking at how far away the nearest supermarket is so I can better prepare for stocking up on staples.

Back home, we put the fireplace on and settled in for the very cold night.
