Week two at
Acadia National Park
During our
second week at Schoodic Point Campground we mostly relaxed.
We did drive
back over to the main park one day where we saw this deer taking a morning
stroll. She didn’t appear to feel
threatened because she stopped and just stared at us for the longest time
before casually moseying on.
We drove
around the side of the park that is less crowded stopping at The Bass Harbor
Light Station.
We weren’t able to go
inside the house because it is a private residence for a local Coast Guard
member.
We were able
to get to the bell and light via a concrete path open to the public.
On the other
side of the house there is a short walk which leads to a series of wooden steps
down onto granite boulders that provide a great view of the harbor side of the
lighthouse.
We also started
out on a short hike.
But the
mosquitoes had us turning around sooner than we had planned.
Another
night we drove down to Schoodic Point for sunset.
One rainy
day, to alleviate our cabin fever, we drove 25 miles into Ellsworth where we
shopped at Renys, a department store chain.
The store advertises itself as A Main Adventure.
We also had
dinner at Finelli’s Pizza. The description
online stated its thin-crust pizza is the focus at this cozy New York-style
counter-service with an old-school vibe. The restaurant had really good reviews. I will be kind by simply saying I was not
impressed.
With temps
down in the 60s, a campfire was a lovely way to finish out our last week at
Schoodic Campground.
Looks like an interesting area. Safe travels!
