June 12, 2013
Cape Blanco State Park
Port Orford, OR

We worked a full shift today (9:45am-4pm).  The weather was beautiful-winds only 5-10 MPH as opposed to 35-40MPH.
We started off as hosts in the work room and lantern room.  We were relieved at 12:30 for lunch and then relieved the couple who were greeters at the Welcome Center at 1pm.

It was warm enough for just our lighthouse host jackets.

We had non-stop visitors the entire day.
When we first arrived at the lighthouse in the morning we found the remains of several birds around the perimeter of the lighthouse.  Monte discovered several more on the platform around the lantern room.  Not wanting to upset young visitors we might have he swept away the feathers and entrails.  We guess that the birds might have been victims of the owls residing nearby.
It was nice enough for me to sit outside for a while when we first got home.
We were disappointed that we didn’t see any whales when we went for our nightly walk.  Having seen them so many nights in a row we kind of took it granted they would be there again.
