Acorn
Campground
New
Hogan Lake,
Valley
Springs, CA
We
had planned on going back to the San Andreas Library on Wednesday, our last day
at Acorn Campground, to use their excellent WiFi to post several blogs and also
find a Laundromat because we were running out room for our dirty clothes.
But
we woke up to clouds with the possibility of rain in the forecast so we decided
to take care of the chores today leaving our last day at New Hogan Lake free to
do something fun.
After
loading up the car with the dirty wash and our laptops, we set off for San
Andreas only 10 miles distance from our campground.
The
Laundromat was on the main road so it was easy to find. We lucked out by getting a parking spot right
in front. There was only one other
patron in the Laundromat so there were plenty of machines to choose from. Or so we thought. We had 5 loads of wash to do and couldn’t
find 5 machines in a row to use because every third machine or so was out of
order. To top it off, each load cost
$2.50. I was used to spending between $1
to $2 a load.
We
got the loads going and ate the chicken salad sandwiches I had brought along
for lunch.
After
lunch, Monte was kind of antsy with nothing to do while I read my book so I
suggested he take a ride around the town and return in an hour.
He
ended up at a thrift and antique shop.
By
the time he returned to the Laundromat I had almost all the clothes folded and
he helped fold the towels.
We
got to the library at 2 and before we knew it there was an announcement that
the library would be closing in 15 minutes at 5pm.
But
we accomplished everything we had set out to do.
Back
home we sat outside watching a group of fawns munching away in the meadow just
below our site as we enjoyed the peace and quiet in our beautiful surroundings.
