Humbug
Mountain State Park, OR
Wednesday-It
began raining just as we were about to set up for our program.
It was a light rain so we stayed at the site
for a few minutes debating if we should cancel the program. Once it started to thunder there was no
longer a debate. We placed the “Program
Cancelled” sign on the kiosk and returned the golf cart to the ranger station.
We
were total couch potatoes the remainder of the day. At 8PM we returned the firewood carts to the
shed (We sell firewood for the camp hosts on their days off- Wednesday and
Thursday)
It
had been really chilly all day but once it stopped raining and the wind died
down it was nice out so we took a walk down to the lower loop and shared Norm
and Cheryl’s (lower loop camp hosts) fire for a while.
Thursday-Monte
has continued to set mouse traps every night.
We hadn’t found any mice in the traps in the morning so we were kind of
surprised this morning that we had caught one.
The
first time we did our knot program we had “0” attendees. I think the reason we didn’t have anyone was
because we only had a handful of campers staying at the park. Two weeks ago we had one father and his two kids
attend the program which was actually pretty nice because we were able to give
them one on one instruction.
This
morning we had 26 in attendance.
Normally when we do a craft or play a game associated with the program,
it is only the kids who participate. But
with the knot tying program, the adults joined in so we didn’t have enough rope
for each person so they had to take turns.
Some
kids gave up in frustration but the ones who kept at it succeeded in learning
the knot and even asked if Monte would teach them more knots. He showed them a couple more and they were
thrilled.
The
younger children (5 years-old and younger) were content to color pictures.
