Humbug Mountain State Park, OR
We had another impressive attendance of 32 people for our “Just Fur You” program this morning.  There weren’t enough seats so the parents and some of the older kids had to stand.
It is so rewarding to see kids enjoying the programs.  They really seemed to like being able to stroke the different animal pelts we had on display.

After lunch we went into town to get caught up on laundry, spent a couple of hours at the library and stopped in Rays Market for milk and bread.  We were surprised when we exited the library to see that it had rained.  While I was in the market I overheard people talking about the severe storm that had passed through.  What?
While I was getting dinner ready, Monte was outside taking pictures of this bug.

Stick Bug?

I’m not sure what kind of insect it is but it had really weird eyes.

It was drizzling as we drove the five miles to Arizona Beach.

There is no host currently assigned to the day use area so one of the hosts from Humbug has to drive there every night to close the gate at 9PM.

Monte had gone along with Norm a couple of weeks ago and saw several elk that make the area home.

Our main goal this evening was to see the elk.

We got there too early so we took a walk along the beach.

We saw some tracks near the water that were very deep.  I’m not sure what kind of animal made the tracks but whatever it was it had sharp claws.
After our walk we sat in the car trying to warm up and waited for the elk.

And waited.

And waited.

There was quite a drop in temperature along the coast so I was glad I had my Sherpa hat is the car.

By 9PM we had to concede that our “stakeout” was a bust.  As we were leaving we spotted a few elk near the entrance to the park but our headlights spooked them and they quickly went into the forest.
