June 23-29, 2019

Pigeon Forge, TN

(Skybridge Gatlinburg )

The Skybridge is billed as one of the most spectacular experiences in the Smokies.  (I had high expectations but was a little disappointed.  But to be fair after experiencing the suspension bridge at Royal Gorge in Colorado nothing could compete or compare to it.
The SkyBridge is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America.
To access the SkyBridge , visitors must take a Skylift to Gatlinburg Skylift Park that features a SkyDeck with expansive views and the SkyCenter that contains a café, restrooms and a retail shop.

We sat in the picnic area to eat the lunch we brought along as we people watched.
In researching the SkyPark I learned that the original SkyLift which had been in operation since 1954 featured a chairlift ride and a small viewing area and gift shop at the top of Crockett Mountain.
Then in 2016, wildfires burned down the top portion of the attraction.  The towers and chairlift were replaced immediately.  The SkyBridge was already in their plans before the wildfires.

The SkyBridge stretches 680 feet across a deep valley and features glass panels in the middle where you can see the ground below.
There are unlimited trips on the SkyLift with a one day admission price.  We only made the trip up and down one time.

It was extremely hot and crowded in Gatlinburg.  We only ended up spending less than an hour going up one side of the street before crossing over and coming back to the lot where we had parked.

The town reminds me a little of other towns we have been to like Orlando and the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls that offer weird and bizarre attractions.

Before leaving town we stopped into NOC Gatlinburg, where Monte took advantage of a hammock to take a short siesta.
