October 7-13

The first campground that we stayed at during the second week of October was Elephant Butte State Park in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico where we mostly just relaxed.

We did take a drive to the Dam
and along the beach where camping is allowed.
We were treated to some spectacular sunsets.

We did an overnighter at El Rancho RV in Vaughn, New Mexico.  It was basically a dirt parking lot with a few hookups with a self-registration box on the honor system.
A bargain at only $15 a night with our Passport America membership but it ended up costing a great deal more as we left our Hydro life water filter system behind.

Moving on we finished out the week at Ute Lake State Park in Logan, New Mexico.

With rainy days and temps in the 40s we weren’t motivated to do any outside activities.  We did drive to the town of Tucumcari where we toured the New Mexico Route 66 Museum.

Exhibits include over 166 images from Route 66 and a collection of vintage automobiles.

After taking selfies at a roadside attraction we made our way to the Mesalands Community College’s Dinosaur Museum and Natural Sciences Laboratory.
The Exhibit Hall houses a host of replicated and original fossils.

I have to admit I’m not really that interested in dinosaurs but having a student guide made the experience more informative and more interesting then it would have been on a self-guided tour.
