Atlantic
City, NJ
Although
currently gaming is the main attraction in Atlantic City, the first casino
wasn’t opened until 1978.
I chose
Caesars because it has non-smoking floor.
We had set a
limit of $20.00 each to gamble (Donate) at the slots.
When Monte ran out of money, he took a walk
to take some pictures.
When he came
back to check on me an hour later I had just lost my last dollar after being up
and down several times.
The Atlantic
City boardwalk was the first ever built boardwalk in the US.
Built in 1870 at a cost of $5,000 it was
eight feet wide and covered one mile.
No
commerce was allowed within 30 feet of the walk.
The boardwalk today is over four miles long
and is lined with numerous shops, restaurants and casinos.
We walked
along the boardwalk trying to decide where we wanted to eat.
We settled on Johnny Rockets
where we shared
a burger and fries
while trying to keep the sea gulls and pigeons at bay.
We just
happened to be sitting at the outdoor café when we noticed a parade coming our
way.
It turned out to be the Miss
America Show Us Your Shoes Parade, a longtime Atlantic City tradition where
spectators line up on the boardwalk for a chance to see the contestants.
After dinner
we continued walking along the boardwalk taking in more sights and sounds of
Atlantic City.
Fralinger’s,
the largest and most famous producer of taffy, produces 11,000 pounds of the
chewy confection a day!
On the way
back to our car we walked through Atlantic Wonder, a seven-acre exhibition site
that includes a wooden pirate ship and illuminated text pieces embedded in the
landscape.
