September 19, 2014
Travel day from Gettysburg, PA to Clinton, MD
We set the alarm for 6AM because we set a 9AM departure time.  It was chilly enough to need a jacket on as we hitched up.  Monte had dumped the night before to save time so that was once less chore to attend to.

We were ready to leave a half hour earlier than anticipated.
I spend considerable time researching RV parks, the best routes and things to do in the area.

It became apparent that I hadn’t done my homework well enough as the GPS route I selected took us through small towns with narrow streets and onto crowded highways filled with impatient people.
A mere ten miles from our destination Monte missed a turn and we ended up in a residential area of Washington, DC
going up one narrow street after another
until we finally arrived at our destination.
The reason I had wanted to leave so early in the morning was because the park we were headed to is based on a first come, first served basis.  Our experience with these types of places has been that they tend to fill up with locals on the weekend.

I chose the County park because of its close proximity to Washington, DC and because it gives a senior discount even to non-residents of the county.
I told Monte he should pull over to the side of the road while I enter the park to check it out.  I knew from reviews I had read online that we should pick a site and then go into the park office to register but I wasn’t sure where the campground was.  A man walking in the park told me the campground was across the road.
I radioed Monte not to come into the park at the entrance but to continue on the road looking for the campground entrance.
He had already started around the loop by the time I caught up with him.

The campground has 25 sites around a very heavily treed loop.  The loop is paved as well as the sites.  Each site has water and a 30AMP hookup.  There is one dump station at the entrance to the campground.
As we made our way around the loop, it suddenly dawned on me that there was no one there.  Not one camper!  I had to laugh at myself for being so nervous about not getting a spot.

We went around the loop twice before choosing a pull through site but when Monte pulled into we noticed that the door would be facing the road with the picnic table on the other side of the rig.  HMMMM.  We also noticed that there was no opening in the tree canopy so our chances of getting a satellite signal were slight.
When we walked around the bend we found probably the best site in the entire campground.
An 80 foot, level, pull through.

After we set up we drove across the road to the office where we registered and paid for three nights at the senior rate of $13/night.  We plan on staying the entire 14 day limit.  The clerk registering us informed us there were NO refunds and suggested we pay for a couple of days at a time.  They only accept cash and checks.

It took Monte several attempts as different locations before he successfully found a satellite signal.

He was a man on a mission.

The park is beautiful-my only complaint is the bathroom.  It is very old and needs a complete remodel.  The woman’s shower is in slightly better condition than the men’s so Monte ended up using the woman’s shower.
