June 1
(Evening)
We couldn’t
visit Memphis without checking out at least one BBQ joint. We ended up at Charlie Vergos Rendezvous
Restaurant on a recommendation by friends.
We were lucky enough to find a metered parking spot one block away from
the restaurant.
The Rendezvous is a
family owned restaurant in a basement accessed through a downtown alley across
from the Peabody Hotel that has been serving their signature dry rub ribs for
70 years.
We opted to
go with pulled pork sandwiches.
After dinner
we took a stroll down Beale Street, one of the most iconic streets in
America.
The Beale Street Entertainment
District is a melting pot of delta blues, Jazz, rock n roll, R&B and gospel
all in a three block section of downtown.
We browsed
through a couple of shops, Blues City General Store and A. Schwab that has been
a staple on Beale Street since 1876.
Seeing some of the candy displayed brought back childhood memories.
Neither
Monte nor I can tolerate cigarette smoke so we didn’t enter any of the clubs. Our entertainment came from the Beale Street
Flippers, a group of amazing acrobats who appeared on America’s Got
Talent.
After dinner
we had added enough coins to the meter for another couple of hours but after an
hour and a half I had enough so we called it a night.
