Oasis Palms RV Park

Thermal, CA

It was quite chilly as we prepared to leave this morning.  Because we didn’t have to dump it didn’t take long to hitch-up and we were on the road by 10:30.  We used MapQuest directions because the GPS wanted to route us through mountains that we had already traveled on and DID NOT want to travel on again.  We took Highway 8 until El Centro and then headed north along the Salton Sea to the town of Thermal.  We had a slight delay when we passed a Border Patrol checkpoint.

We chose Oasis Palms because they accept PA and because it is centrally located to some of the places we want to explore.  (Palm Springs Tram, Salton Sea State Recreation Area, Joshua Tree National Park, etc.)

The park is very nice.   There are 60 sites and we were told that we could basically pick any available spot.  We paid for one night (but are pretty sure we will be staying at least a week) and Monte hopped in my car so we could drive the two loops to select a site.  We chose #21 because it offered some shade courtesy of lemon trees and because there would be no one on either side of us.

We set up quickly and were happy to discover that we had very good TV reception as well as wifi.  The only complaint I have is that the campground is too close to the highway and the constant noise is irritating.

I sat outside reading until the sun went down behind the mountains and the temperature dropped quickly.
