Chinook RV Resort, Klamath, CA

We had a very lazy morning.  I finally made us some waffles around 10am and then we sat around catching up on emails and financials.

Monte went outside and started puttering around.  I’m not really sure what he was doing but then he came running up to the door for his camera because he saw some seals in the river diving for salmon and there were dozens of birds that looked as if they were dive bombing the seals.  It was very entertaining watching them.

A little while later one of the other guests walked over to the fish cleaning station and started cleaning and cutting up a 30 pound salmon that one of the local fishermen had given her.  Monte was salivating but it didn’t do anything for me since I don’t eat fish.

Since we had a late breakfast we skipped lunch but were hungry at around 3.  We had bought a new portable gas grill at Camping World when we had visited my nephew and his wife in Spokane last month but hadn’t had a chance to use it yet.  So today was the day.  Monte took it out of the box, put it together and rummaged around in the basement looking for the small propane cylinders.  He had to take a few things out to find them (anyone who has an RV knows what I mean) but finally he located them and we were ready to grill.  We decided to grill the London broil we picked up at Safeway yesterday.   Some corn and mashed potatoes rounded out the meal.  I had sautéed an onion but forgot to put it on the steak.  I didn’t remember until we had finished eating and brought the dishes back inside and saw the pan with the onions.

We cleaned up and went for a drive.

We headed south and saw a sign for the Klamath Beach Road.  The road led us past a couple of RV Camps along the river.  We decided to stop in one to see what it was like and ask the rate.  Let us just say it would be way out of our budget.  After driving around the camp for a couple of minutes, we were approached by the camp host driving a golf cart.  We explained that we wanted to check out the place for possible future camping.  He was very nice and told us we should continue on Klamath Beach Road because it winds around the river and then ascends so that you are driving high above the beach.  We opened up the moon roof and it was wonderful to feel the cool breeze as it ruffled our hair.

We stopped at several lookouts along the way and took a lot of pictures.

I was glad that we had my car because there were signs warning that RVs and Campers are prohibited from continuing at a certain point.   We found out the reason why shortly after starting on the road as it got very narrow and had many low hanging branches.  At one point we thought we had missed a turn because the road went from paved to gravel but we continued on and found a path that descended to a parking lot.

There was a sign for a foot path so we followed it and were rewarded with a spectacular view of the beach. It started getting dark so we headed back home.  It was another lovely day.
