Chattahoochee Park and Jim Woodruff Lock
and Dam
Monte planned on doing some maintenance
work around the rig but I asked him to hold off for a couple of hours so we
could take a ride to the nearby Chattahoochee Park to take a walk.
The park is less than a mile up the road
from our campground and has several picnic areas.
Upon exiting the park we had the choice of
taking a paved road and a dirt road. One
of Monte’s favorite things to do is explore dirt roads to see where they
lead. SO we took the dirt road that lead
to another dirt road, etc.
After the third or fourth dirt road I
entered the campground in our GPS and within a few minutes we were back on a
paved road.
We hadn’t explored the Woodruff Dam yet so
we headed in that direction.
We can see the dam from the campground-this
is the view of the campground from the dam.
Driving toward the dam, we crossed into
Florida.
Then driving back across the
bridge we crossed back into Georgia.
There is a lovely picnic area along the
river near the dam.
We spent some time watching
the alligators and birds.
We counted at
least 5 alligators.
One kept creeping
closer and closer to a Great Blue Heron.
Following the road
past the dam
we came
upon the Clyde T. Hopkins Municipal Park.
We struck up a conversation with a woman
who was unloading a fishing pole from the trunk of her car. Monte asked her what she was going to be
fishing for. He also asked if she knew
how much a fishing license cost. She
thought it cost around $17 and told him he could get the license at the Tax
Collector’s office in nearby Snead.
Following her directions we arrived at the
Tax Collector’s office 10 minutes later.
We found out the freshwater and salt water licenses cost $17 each or if
purchased together only $32.50. Monte
opted to get both.
When Monte asked the clerk if there was a
discount for seniors, we were told that there is no fee for the license. All he had to do was make sure he had his driver’s
license with him when he fished. Getting
older does have some perks.
By the time we returned home we had been
gone 4 hours-so much for a quick ride to the nearby park to take a short walk.
I was looking forward to another
spectacular sunset but was disappointed when clouds moved in so I didn’t bother
to take any pictures.
It is supposed to drop down to below
freezing tonight so I am glad that we have an electric hook-up so we can keep
the fireplace going all night.
