Happy Halloween from Big Lagoon State Park,
Pensacola, FL
Living this roving lifestyle can be pretty
exciting sometimes-we get to meet new people and explore new areas but
sometimes we have to do the same mundane chores we did when living in a sticks
and bricks house.
First order of business was deciding where
we wanted to eat lunch. I had a yen for
a hamburger so I entered Steak and Shake in the GPS. No luck-so we settled on Checkers. It was not a pleasurable experience.
#1- We had to wait a couple of minutes for
attention at the walk-up window. When
the guy finally opened the window, he didn’t greet us-just looked at us waiting
for us to give our order.
#2-We had to wait ten minutes for the order
to be filled (two cars that drove through after we placed our order received
their orders before we did)
#3- We had requested two cups of water when
we ordered but were only handed the bag with the burgers and one order of
fries. Monte had to remind the guy about
the water. There were only two napkins
in the bag. I asked for more napkins and
was given ONE!
#4-When ordering the special of 2 Cheesy
burgers for $4 I inquired if there were onions on the burger and if so were
they raw. (I just CANNOT digest raw onions) He said they were grilled. I should have checked prior to taking a bite
because the onion was raw.
#5-We ordered a medium fries. After dividing the fries up to share we each
ended up with around 12.
#6-The CHEESY part of the burger was disgusting
tasting like artificial cheese from a can.
In summary-Next time we are in the mood for
a burger we will go somewhere else and spend a little more money—sometimes the
saying is true—You get what you pay for!
Our next chore was to do laundry. I had checked out the website prior to
leaving the rig and chose this particular Laundromat because they advertised
they are the cleanest in the area and offer free WiFi. If they are the cleanest I can only wonder
what the other Laundromats in the area look like! Almost every other machine had an “Out of
Order” sign. It cost $3 a load to wash and
$1.25 for 20 minutes to dry and 5 minutes for each additional 25 cents. If you don’t check to see if things are dry
prior to the time running out, you have to pay another $1.25.
We got three loads of wash going and set up
my laptop. When we tried to log on as
guests a box popped up that required a pass code. When we asked the attendant what the code was
she informed us she didn’t know. She
said the manager has the code and he was out making a delivery. Ten minutes later when the manager showed up
and we asked about the code, he turned my laptop around so we couldn’t see what
he was typing and entered the code.
We
watched a TV show on HULU that ended just as the three loads were dry. Sam’s Club was next followed by Walmart.
This guy was doing some acrobatics on top
of the sign advertising a restaurant. It
was silly but I give the people who do this type of work credit. What it says to me is no job is too silly and
I would rather do this then stand on a corner with a sign asking for a handout.
By the time we returned to the campground
it was dark and the gate was closed.
Luckily we had the pass code with us.
