Travel day from Bainbridge, GA
To Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State
Park, White Springs, FL
When we woke up to pouring rain we debated
whether we should stay another day or start getting ready to move despite the
rain.
We finally decided that we would start
getting inside ready and if it was still raining at noon we would stay another
night.
The rain let up by 11AM so Monte started
getting the outside ready.
It took a
little longer than usual because he had the added chore of wiping everything
down.
When it was time to bring the slides in I
had to start and stop a few times to allow the water to pour off the slide
toppers.
Monte doing one of his standard departure duties-checking the tires on all the vehicles.
Finally we were ready to leave. This pictures doesn't really show how steep this road is leading out of our loop.
My concern over the steepness was unfounded.
We had to stop at the communal dump station.
It took a little longer than usual to empty the tank.
After ten days and with two extra people filling the tank for two days, it was filled to the brim.It rained just about the entire 140 mile drive from Bainbridge, GA to White Springs, FL.
We arrived at Stephen Foster State Park
around 3:30. We were assigned site 13, a
long pull-through that had plenty of room for my car.
It was still raining as we set up.
Monte put one set of leveling blocks down but
ended up having to put another set down because when he pulled on top of the
first set they sunk into the very wet ground.
We had paid for just one night because we
weren’t sure if we would get satellite reception as the sites are lined with
very tall trees.
BUT once we got the power going, turned on
the satellite and saw that we had a great signal, I drove back to the entrance
and paid for another two nights.
We
would have liked to stay an additional three nights but the site was reserved
beginning Thursday.
After dinner we walked the short distance
to the very clean bathhouse and enjoyed warm showers.
