Grand
Canyon Railway RV Park, Williams, AZ
When
we went to bed I expected to be woken up through the night by trucks coming and
going out of the Walmart parking lot but we weren’t. We slept great!
We
had been so tired that we fell asleep before 11pm and were up by 6am.
While Monte was checking the tire pressure a
man approached us and asked if we could spare some food. I gave him two sandwiches I had made
yesterday morning for lunch. We never
stopped for lunch so they were still in the fridge. I added a couple of bananas and a bottle of
water to the bag I gave him. He said we
would be in his prayers. Awesome!
Last
night when we were in Subway we noticed that they are having a buy one get one
free breakfast special this month so we treated ourselves to a steak, egg and
cheese sandwich. YUM.
We
were on the road by 10am and arrived in Flagstaff 4o minutes later. We parked the rig in the Cracker Barrel
parking lot and drove in my car to the historic district only a couple of miles
away.
We
found a parking space right away on Leroux St.
Our first stop was the Flagstaff Visitor Center
housed in the same
building as the Amtrak Depot.
We
left with a handful of brochures.
Apricot Tart.
Climbing walls
Bicycle built for three?
We
had only planned on walking around Flagstaff for an hour but ended up staying
for two hours.
Walking around the gift shop was
like taking a walk down memory lane because they carry so many different kinds
of candy that I enjoyed as a child but haven’t seen sold anywhere else.
We
got back on the road by 1pm
and made the short 30 mile trip to our next
destination,
the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams, AZ.
After
checking in at reception and receiving our reserved site number, we made our
way across the street to the actual park.
We had been assigned a pull-through site and got set up quickly.
I took a walk to check out the laundry and
showers.
I
was on fumes so Monte checked on Gas Buddy to see who had the best prices. $3.99 for regular-YIKES. We should have filled up in Flagstaff where
the gas prices were anywhere from 35 to 50 cents less per gallon.
On
our way to the gas station we stopped off at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel
near our park.
It is run by the same
company and we were entitled to take advantage of the hotel amenities including
the pool and hot tub.
We
drove the short distance to Route 66, gassed up and then took a walk up one
side of the street and down the other side.
Back
home, we grabbed our bathing suits and headed over to the hotel to soak in the
hot tub. We thought we would be able to
take showers but were surprised to discover there was no shower in the pool
area.
I
went in the pool-It was a little chilly but I adjusted quickly. Monte stuck his toe in the water and said, “No
way.”
So we went into the hot tub and
shared it with a couple who we soon found out had the site next to our
site. They are full-timers from a town
in Florida not far from our home town.
We
enjoyed a half hour chatting with the couple until the chlorine got to me and I
had to get out.
It
had been a great day!
