Wilmore, KY
The reason
we came to Wilmore was for me to meet and for Monte to get reacquainted with
friends he hadn’t seen in 16 years. Bob
and Jill had been members of the same church Monte and his wife, Ellen attended
when they were all young with small children.
The two families became very good friends. Bob and Jill moved to Wilmore so Bob could
attend the seminary school.
In the short
time I had spent with Bob and Jill last night, when they invited us in for
pizza, I began to feel like I had known them a long time. I also met Bob’s 91 year old father Paul who
lives nearby and comes for dinner a few times a week. Paul had worked for Chrysler for many years
and offered to follow Monte over to the dealer in the morning so they could
look at our truck because Monte said it was making a swooshing sound.
Monte left
before 8am, following Paul, to the local Dodge Chrysler Dealer a few miles
away, in Nicholasville. When he arrived
at the service center, he was informed that they would not be able to check out
the truck until tomorrow. Paul and Monte
walked around the lot with a salesman who showed Monte a few brand new
trucks. Just for “fun”, the salesman
worked up a price order confirmation. To
be able to give a quote on a trade in for our truck, they had to evaluate the
value of the truck. So all of a sudden
they had time today to diagnose what was causing the swooshing sound.
It turned
out that the problem was a crack in the boost hose that would cost around $250
to fix.
The final
total on the cost of a new dually truck with all the bells and whistles was
reduced by $20,000 after the $12,500 trade in value of our truck, available
rebates and Paul’s friends and family discount was applied.
When Paul
dropped Monte off, he filled me in on all the details. After a pros and cons discussion we decided
it just wasn’t the right time to make such a big ticket item purchase so Monte
called the service department to okay the repair.
After lunch
we took a ride to Nicholasville because I wanted to pick up a couple of items
in Walmart. But first we stopped at a
wine and spirit store. Kentucky does not
sell wine in grocery stores.
We really enjoyed the ride into town past green pastures and rolling hills
To our
surprise, we discovered that Walmart has a walk-in clinic. Monte has been suffering with what we guessed
was a sinus infection for a couple of months.
Being stubborn about going to a clinic he has been miserable. When he inquired about the cost at the clinic
he found out it wouldn’t cost him anything because he has Medicare. He was diagnosed with acute sinusitis and
prescribed Augmentin.
While the
prescription was being filled, we got a call that the truck was ready so we
picked it up. Monte didn’t have his GPS
in the truck so he had to follow me back to the Walmart to pick up the
prescription and then back to where our rig is parked.
As a thank
you for providing electric to us, we invited Bob and Jill out to dinner at a
restaurant of their choosing.
The route
Bob took to the restaurant took us on a winding road with hairpins turns past
beautifully green manicured lawns.
The restaurant
Bob chose, the Beaumont Inn Owl’s Nest, is one of those quant little out of the
way places and a nice change of pace from a chain restaurant.
The food, as well as the company, was very
good.
After
dinner, Bob took us to their get-a-way.
Some years ago they purchased a few acres of land some 20 miles or so
away from their house in Wilmore.
