Cape
Blanco State Park
Port
Orford, OR
Even
though it was our day off we set the alarm for 7AM because we were meeting some
of the other volunteers in town for Monday morning breakfast at 9.
Only
four other couples showed up for breakfast this morning. It was nice having a small group because it
was easier to have a group conversation.
After
breakfast we went to the only Laundromat in town which is actually a Laundromat
and car wash. One of the other
lighthouse host couples was doing their wash at the same time so we got to chat
with them for a while. Due to the wind
and cold there is not much socializing going on at the campground.
We
got through with washing four loads quickly because there were ample
machines. Our next destination was the
library where we spent a couple of hours.
Monte did some research while I got caught up on TV shows on Hulu.
The
tailgater we ordered was scheduled for delivery to the Ranger office in Humbug. We had ordered it the previous Sunday through
Camping World. The order wasn’t
processed until Wednesday so it wasn’t even shipped out until that
afternoon. We are very disappointed in
Camping World’s order processing. Why
does it take three days to process an order?
We
planned on taking a ride to Humbug to pick up our package but when Monte called
to verify it had been delivered he was informed that one of the Rangers was
going to deliver it to our site.
Sure
enough, when we arrived back home the package was there.
Monte unpacked the tailgater,
placed it in
the corner of our site where there was no obstructions,
and ran the cable
to
the connecter in the rig.
We
tried to get a signal. Nothing. Monte moved the tailgater a couple of feet
and tried getting a signal. Nothing. He repeated the steps a few times moving the
tailgater several times. FINALLY, when
Monte placed the tailgater on the top of the cab of the truck we were able to acquire
a signal.
After
dinner we took our nightly walk down to the bluff overlooking the beach.
We didn’t have to wait long before spotting
three whales. (Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get a decent picture)
They are such magnificent
creatures and no matter how many times I see them I am in awe.
As
cold and windy as it is here I am going to miss our nightly walks to see the
whales.
We have decided to accept the
position of assisting with the Junior Ranger program at Humbug and will be
leaving Cape Blanco at the end of the month.
Back
home I put a carrot out and within a few minutes one of the bunnies living in
the bushes at our site came out to feast on the treat.
