Orford, OR
We
had a leisurely morning as we didn’t have to report to the lighthouse until 12:30.
When
we pulled up to the area reserved for the guides, we noticed the two portable
potties had been moved a few feet and placed closer to the fence. I thought that they had been moved to provide
more parking but found out later on that they had blown the few feet to their
new location by the wind.
The
tours had been stopped early yesterday due to winds over 50 MPH.
It
felt that windy today and I thought it might keep people away. BUT we had non-stop visitors the entire
shift.
Monte took this picture from the tower of a group of seals or sea lions
on one of the large rocks. There were twice as many of them on the rock before he took the picture-but a large wave washed over the rock and pushed them in the water.

At
3:15, Carol, who was hosting the Greeting Center, came up to the lighthouse to
inform me that she had 18 people coming up for a tour. I laughed and told her that was a good
one. She said she was serious. And she
was. The group was a family having a reunion.
I
gave them my part of the tour as a group and then sent them up into the tower
in groups of 5.
After
dinner, we walked down to the bluff overlooking the beach. It was clear with good visibility. We sat for a while and just as we were ready
to move on, Monte spotted two whales. They
were close to each other and stayed for a while. Watching them was well worth sitting in the
cold and wind.
