On July 31, 2012, we pulled out of the driveway of our sticks and bricks home to begin a
new lifestyle.
Spring Hill, Florida
We brought along our "kids", Annie and Pumpkin
Annie took the new life like a pro
But it took Pumpkin a while to adjust to the moving house.
We had certain
expectations-some were met while others far exceeded anything we could have
hoped for.
Like
anything in life there were pros and cons and ups and downs.
We have learned
so much, have met some wonderful people and have seen and experienced things
and places that would not have been possible if we hadn’t embarked on this
journey.
In some ways it is hard to believe it has been an entire year but after looking through all the pictures we have taken it is actually hard to believe it has only been a year!
Bedroom TV-Monte installed a shelf that houses our DVD player and secured it so we don't have to stow it when we move.
King size bed
Every little bit of space is used-We installed these metal baskets to store our washcloths and hand towels.
Organization is the key to living and working in a small area.
I just have to remember to move the garbage pail and throw rug when we move!
All of the dry food stuff is stored in labeled containers
Closet is used for laundry, liter box, household cleaners, etc.
Monte installed the rack for our plastic wrap, etc.
The kitchen table doubles as my office.I use an accordion folder that stores easily between the couch and wall when not in use.
VERY uncomfortable couch
The ottoman doubles as a storage box and coffee table.
Monte's Desk
Entertainment center includes our printer, DVD player, etc.
The fireplace is very efficient
I store my pots and pans in a large plastic tub under the sink.
We use baskets to easily access our clothes.
There was an adjustment period, when we first began living
in our rig, as there is with anyone moving into a new house or
apartment. The expression, "A place for everything
and everything in its place," became almost like a mantra. Anything
not stowed in its place seemed magnified in such a small space.
Another challenge those first few weeks was trying to remember
where I had put things. I found myself opening several cabinets in search
of things that I didn't use that often like a funnel or the canister of
flour.
Monte had his own challenges also looking for particular items in
the basement until he came up with his own system of storing items.
Now, after a year of living in our new house on wheels, it feels
like HOME and it is a great feeling.
Rose, I am impressed with what you have done in making it a real home. We are housesitting for our friends for one month. We are going to deep clean the trailer, downsize things we don't need and try some of your suggestions. We have enjoyed following you and Monte's blog ever since we met at the RV Dreams Rally. We hope to see you on the road.
