Humbug
Mountain State Park, OR
Today
was our day off . Being retired we had
taken for granted that every day was a day off but since taking on host camping
we really look forward to our free days.
We especially look forward to waking up naturally as opposed to the
obnoxious alarm clock.
We
started off the day with pancakes. They
turned out to be the worst pancakes I have ever made. I’m not sure what happened-possibly I didn’t
wait for the griddle to be hot enough or maybe the batter was too thick. They tasted okay but were not visibly appealing.
The
afternoon was taken up with chores-laundry, library to post past blogs and the
market. We spent $50 on a few
items. I don’t know how the people who
live locally, and primarily shop in the market, can afford the prices they
charge. I guess I am spoiled because I
have always lived near several markets that kept prices down through
competition.
After
dinner we took one of the many trails available at the campground.
It wound up through the mountain and led us
out on an old paved road that is closed to automobile traffic.
We crossed over a walking bridge and picked
up the road on the other side. I suppose
there must have been a car bridge there at one time that maybe collapsed and
rather than rebuilt it they built the pedestrian bridge in its place.
We
have been in the campground for two weeks and tonight was the first time we
walked any of the trails. Part of the
problem of being in one place for an extended period of time is we tend to
become lazy.
We
have got to do something about that!
