July 26, 2013
Humbug Mountain State Park, OR
Our program today was entitled Just Fur You.  We started off with two boys who were waiting for us at the JR Ranger site when we got there.  We began the program on time and little by little more kids started showing up.  We ended up with a group of 20.
To break up the monotony we took a ride into town and had lunch at the Port and Starboard Restaurant.  They had an extensive menu featuring fresh caught fish.  We ordered a pizza.  That is what I was in the mood for and the restaurant is the only place in town that serves pizza.

When the waitress came to take our order she warned us that it might take a while because they have to heat up the oven.  What?  They had an entire page devoted to pizza but I guess it isn’t a big seller.
The wait was well worth it because the pizza was very good and reasonably priced.  I had planned on taking a picture of the pie when it was delivered to the table but we were so hungry we just dove right in.
We spent a couple of hours at the library and then stopped in at the market for just a couple of items.  We plan on taking a ride into Coos Bay to go to Walmart and do big shopping on our next day off.  120 miles round trip.
Back home I sat outside reading for a while Monte went up to the Ranger office to help Greg with a project.
We have some programs that include games with pages to be filled out and some programs are geared toward children 6 and older so I have coloring pages handy for those kids that are too young to do the game that I can distribute.  The tables at the JR Ranger site have wide gabs between the planks making it difficult to write or color on them.  I requested that some clipboards be purchased.
When Greg priced them the least expensive clipboards he could find were $5 each.  I had asked for 20 clipboards.
The money for the clipboards was not in the budget but he did come up with an alternative to buying them-making them.
Monte and Greg cut out 40 boards from one sheet of plywood.

Monte then sanded the boards and I added the clips.

They came out great.
