August 6, 2012

Our first night boondocking wasn’t too bad.  We opened up the windows and there was actually a cool breeze.  Up at 6:30-We had gift cards for Dunkin Donuts so we used the GPS to find the closest location.  It said it was only 7 miles away but ended up being more like 20 miles away.  We arrived back at Camping World at 8 just as they were opening.  We went directly to the service desk and were informed that their computers were down and they could not check the next available appointment.  The clerk said he thought it would be at least 3 days!  He used his phone to locate another Camping World (in Bowling Green, KY) and also gave us the name of another place that services campers that was nearby.  We called them and were told they didn’t have an opening for 2 weeks—this just gets better and better.

In the meantime we called the tire warranty co and filed a claim.  We called the insurance co and filled a claim for the damages the tire caused.  They were able to give us the name of a tire dealer close to our location.  We drove there and had all four tires changed out.  IT turns out that the tires we had (Goodyear tires made in China) were not rated for the weight of the rig.  I don’t understand that because those were the tires that came with the RV.

Anyway, Rob at Goodyear in Nashville sold us G rated tires (for a mere $1,700) that are supposed to last for at least 100,000 miles—We called the Camping World in Bowling Green and they said come on in.  We arrived at 2.  I sat in the lounge with my laptop and was able to get on the web.  I watched Army Wives and searched for someplace to stay.  If the damages were going to be extensive and they could not fix it that day we would have to stay in a motel.  BUT to my surprise and delight, less than two hours after arriving, the repairs were done.  (only $84).

We decided to look for someplace to stay for a couple of nights so we could take a tour of nearby Mammoth Cave the next day.  We found this really nice RV Park called Singing Hills.  They honor Passport America so the rate was $16 night for a full hook up.

After setting up, it didn’t take Monte long to find some guys to talk to and compare rigs.  It must be a guy thing.

I gently nudged him away because by this time it was 7:30 and I was starving (I get cranky when I am hungry) We ate at a Cracker Barrel because we had a gift card.

Then on to Walmart for a few items, gas up the truck and back “home”.

We watched a little TV (not much of a selection-mostly church based or reruns of old TV shows) and called it a night.  What a day!
