“Sales Department, Line one.” That was our wake-up call this morning. We reluctantly got out of bed. A short time later there was a knock at the
door. It was the Service Manager
thanking us for our patience. He
informed us that he had heard from Keystone who requested some additional
measurements. He told them they had all
the measurements there was to give. He
also told them that it was ridiculous that we had to spend an entire week here
with no solution. He asked if Keystone
had looked into the history of the coach because it is only a 2010 and it had
been traded in less than a year after the original owner purchased it. That was unusual—maybe they had the same
problem? The Keystone engineer also
conceded (although it was unlikely) that it was possible that the wrong size
was entered in the CNC machine at the factory.
One solution being tossed around was that we return the rig to the
factory so they could do the repair. THE
FACTORY IS IN ELKHART INDIANA! Who is
going to pay for our expenses to travel all the way there and then all the way
back to the west coast? Our plan after
leaving Oregon was to spend a couple of months in California and then a couple
of months in Arizona.
We reminded the service manager that we would be
departing today for a rally (luckily it was only a few miles away) and that we
would return next Monday at which time hopefully a solution will have been
found.
Just prior to our leaving, at the end of July, we had purchased
an Olympus waterproof-camera from Best Buy.
Monte has been so pleased with its performance that he has been using
that camera almost exclusively rather than his Pentax. But lately the camera has been locking up and
since we had purchased an extended warrantee we returned it to Best Buy and
received a new one.
After we returned to the RV Corral, we prepared for the
short trip over to River Bend RV Resort where the rally is scheduled to take
place. The resort is located next to the
Willamette River. When we checked in the
clerk informed us that we were eligible for a weekly rate because we had added
one day to our reservation. So we added
a day and it cost us $50 less.
Crazy!
We quickly did a long stay set-up that differs from a
short stay set-up. We took a walk to check
out the resort and encountered another couple who at first mistook us for a
couple they knew. They explained that at
a distance we looked like the couple they were waiting for to arrive. We returned to our rig to change into our
bathing suits and went in search of the pool and hot tub. We found the pool.
There was no one there so we had the hot tub to ourselves. A short while later, another couple showed up and we had a very nice chat with them. They are also full-timers.

My stomach started growling and I knew it was time to
return to our rig and make dinner. Linda
and Howard, our rally hosts, stopped by to drop off a plastic bag filled with
literature from the Chamber of Commerce.
They informed us that there were quite a few early arrivals, (the rally
does not officially start until tomorrow) and that they would be gathering
around a fire ring that evening. I
prepared dinner and then we made our way to where the group was assembled. At first we thought we were too late because
we didn’t see light from a fire but then as we got closer we heard voices. There was not a fire but there was a group
forming a circle. We sat down next to
Howard and Linda but didn’t stay long as one by one, couples started saying
goodnight and departing.
Back home we watched a little TV and then went to
sleep. It was another good day.
