Broken
Arrow Campground
Diamond
Lake, OR
I
hadn’t expected to sleep well due to the bright lights in the parking lot at
Walmart and the major road just a few feet from our rig. BUT I fell asleep immediately after turning
off the light last night and slept soundly all night.
We
were ready to leave by 8:30.
The 70 mile
trip from Medford to Diamond Lake was very pleasant.
Even the short delay we encountered due to
road construction couldn’t mar the perfect day.
Our
destination was Diamond Lake campground operated by the US Forest Service. Luckily there was a place for Monte to park so
he could come with me in my car as we drove around the campground to see what
spots were available. The campground is
divided into two sections. One section
has reserved spots while the other loop is mostly first come first served. Unfortunately there were only a couple of
sites that would accommodate our size rig and they were already taken.
So
it was on to plan B. Less than a mile up
the road is another Forest Service Campground, Broken Arrow. We left the rig and drove over in my car to
check it out.
The
host informed us that there are no reservations accepted after Labor Day so any
empty site is available. We drove all
the loops marking on a campground map the sites that would meet our requirements
(large enough for my car, sun for our solar panels and no trees blocking our satellite.
After
finding the spot we wanted we returned to Diamond Lake Campground to get the
rig.
We
set up quickly and decided to take a ride to Crater Lake.
We planned on spending the entire next day
there but wanted to get a park map and brochure to get an idea of what to
expect.
IT
WAS BREATHTAKING!
As
I stood looking out at the clear blue water I was reminded how lucky we are to
be living this lifestyle.
