Savannah, GA
I went to
the Savannah Convention Center’s website to see if there were any events
planned. There weren’t so we took
advantage of the free parking and walked a short distance to the dock.
Our timing
was perfect because we caught a ferry that was just about to leave the
dock.
While we
crossed the river we noticed a yacht just pulling alongside the dock across the
river.
We took a
slow stroll along the riverfront sampling foods and candy merchants were using
to try to lure customers in.
Monte really
liked the calamari samples and I enjoyed the fried pickles. We both savored the pralines (at five
different shops) and fudge.
The
riverside is quite a bit lower than the main street. There are access stairs to the main street at
intervals.
I think we
ended up choosing the steepest stairs.
With no
agenda in mind we just wandered along until we came to a stop for the free city
bus. We hopped on and rode it until we
ended up back where we started 30 minutes later.
We strolled
through City Market just off of Ellis Square, stopping in at a candy shop to
sample more fudge and then to the Byrd’s Famous Cookie store to sample many
delicious cookies. We purchased Key
Line Cookies at (gulp) $7.95 for an 8ounce bag.
They were THAT GOOD!
We continued
our aimless walking for another hour before catching the ferry back to the
Convention Center.
It had been
another awesome day--
